We at Elite Roofing share in the spirit of Giving Tuesday on Tuesday, Dec. 3. This global movement asks individuals and organizations to reimagine a world built upon our shared humanity and generosity. Their global network’s common mission “to build a world where generosity is a part of everyday life.”
Giving Tuesday reflects our core values. So what is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday offers the opportunity to act in the spirit of tzedakah, a foundational Jewish commandment (mitzvah) that calls on us to help others with acts of generosity and justice. The Hebrew word Chesed (loving-kindness) is another core value Judaism shares with Giving Tuesday. Elite Roofing’s leadership and team are committed to these values as individuals and as corporate citizens.
Elite’s ongoing corporate giving
Throughout the year, members of the Elite Roofing team volunteer and contribute to causes that are dear to our hearts. Elite Roofing and the Glowinsky family have deep roots in the GTA, starting the family business in 1956 and proudly serving our community for three generations.

Elite’s work with the Jewish Youth Network
Recently, we’ve had the honour of working closely with the Jewish Youth Network (JYN) to support building their beautiful new JYN Robbins Family Campus. When JYN reached out to us, they were operating out of three different GTA rental locations. Now JYN will have a central campus, with the south location in mid-town likely to continue as a satellite facility. This much needed space consolidates and expands JYN’s physical, operational, and programming needs.
Why is the JYN such a valuable community asset? The Jewish population in the GTA under the age of 24 exceeds 60,000, a high percentage of whom are not engaged in any programming that promotes Jewish identity and responsibility. JYN helps fill that gap by providing Jewish youth with new opportunities to enjoy Jewish learning, peer connection, social wellness, and spirituality in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
JYN Project Background
Elite Roofing has been an active part of the organization, with many personal connections, since its inception. As a labour of love, we naturally wanted to lend our expertise in every way possible, including:
- Getting involved during pre-construction, offering budget pricing for areas of concern
- Providing information and recommendations at critical junctions to avoid problems later on, especially regarding site conditions and challenges
- Joining discussions with Project Manager Shane Emer from Rease Construction and Hugh Tse from Wes Surdika Architect on effective ways to meet project goals and allow for good long term performance of the roof system
- Cost-conscious roofing and expert craftsmanship for this special community project
The Outcome
Elite Roofing is proud we could help bring this beautiful building to life. The outcome will enable JYN to better attract our youth and engage them Jewishly through educational programs, enrichment classes, recreational activities and communal giving opportunities.
One of the 613 commandments in the Torah is to make a guard rail around your roof parapet walls to prevent others from falling from it (Deuteronomy 22:8). Celebrating the installation of the roof with JYN Founder Rabbi Shmuli Nachlas is a special memory for the Elite team. The nachas (pride and joy) we take away from these projects is not something that can be quantified in dollars and cents.

We make corporate contributions and participate in several projects throughout the year. Some of our favorites include volunteering for the Second Harvest food rescue and distribution organization and providing education scholarships funds for members of Canadian families serving in the Canadian Armed Forces through the National Scholarship Program.
